A reliable copy-and-check sequence
- Check the run length and its selected unit, height and its unit, fence type, post spacing, board width, gap and gate inputs.
- Press Calculate materials. Editing a field alone does not refresh the result in this tool.
- If you want the calculation explanation, expand Show calculation notes before copying.
- Press Copy results, paste into a note or document, and check what actually arrived. Do not use the button label alone as your saved record.
- Add your input settings and a date to that note yourself. Keep the record with your measured layout, rather than treating the copied quantities as a complete design.
What the button copies
The source reads the result section's rendered text and passes it to the browser clipboard. That section contains the material cards, local-price result and calculation-notes control. It is outside the input form, so this is not an export of every input field or a file that can reload your settings.
Rendered text is not the same as all text stored in the page: hidden content can be omitted. Expand the notes if you need them and inspect your paste. The MDN description of rendered text explains this browser behavior. Formatting, button labels and line breaks may be present; the site does not generate a formatted quotation or spreadsheet through this button.
The easy-to-miss stale-result case
Suppose you calculate a run and then change its gate count. The field shows your new choice, but the existing result remains until you calculate again. Copying at that point reads the existing result, not the changed field. The same distinction applies to a new length, unit, board gap or price.
This follows from the actual code: the form's submit handler updates the cards, while the copy handler only reads the result text. It does not invoke the calculation. A pasted record can therefore be internally consistent yet describe an earlier set of inputs.
For a comparison, paste the first result under its own input notes, change your settings, calculate again, then paste the second under a separate heading. These are your own notes, not a batch or history feature supplied by the calculator.
What the button messages mean
- Copied
- The clipboard write completed. Paste and check the text; the message does not mean a project was saved on this site.
- Copy unavailable
- The attempted clipboard write failed. This is not a new material calculation or a judgment about the result. You can select the visible result text and use your device's normal copy command instead.
- Copy results
- The normal label returns after the temporary message. Its return does not indicate that the clipboard was cleared or that the plan was recalculated.
The browser's clipboard API requires a secure context and can reject a write. Use the live HTTPS site; HTTPS alone is not a guarantee that a particular browser will allow copying. See the MDN clipboard write documentation. This tool shows a failure label, not a diagnosis of your device or browser settings.
Keep these details beside the pasted plan
- The total length and selected unit, plus the fence height and its unit.
- The fence type, board width and gap, post spacing, and gate count and width.
- Your per-post concrete volume and bag yield, if entered.
- Your entered unit prices, if you need to reproduce the optional cost result.
- Which run the note describes, when you calculated it, and any unresolved layout decisions.
If the pasted cost text asks for inputs, it is not a zero-cost quotation. Read why the cost estimate can be missing. A copied list still has the limits of a single-run planning estimate; it is not an installation specification or a supplier order.
Method and checks
This guide is based on this site's calculation and copy handlers and its visible form. Original handler checks verified that supplied result text is passed unchanged to the clipboard, success and failure messages reset, and an unavailable clipboard API is handled without recalculating. These are controlled code checks, not a promise that every device will permit a clipboard write.
