Use the net run for fabric
The calculator first converts your total length to feet. It then multiplies gate count by gate width and subtracts that opening length from the total. That remaining number is used as the chain-link fabric result.
fence fabric length = total fence length − (gate count × gate width)
In the result, the fabric card identifies this as the linear run after gate openings. A gate opening is not included as fabric length.
Why picket settings do not control the chain-link result
For wood privacy and wood picket selections, the calculator uses picket width and gap to estimate a picket or slat count. For Chain link fence, it does not make that picket calculation. It relabels the vertical-infill result as fence fabric instead.
Other results still use the same single-run plan
Posts and rails are still calculated from the sections created by the net run and your selected post spacing. Each gate also adds two gate posts in the calculator's planning method. The fastener result uses the chain-link planning allowance rather than the wood-style picket-to-rail connection count.
Use the fabric length as a planning quantity
The fabric result is a clear starting quantity for one continuous run. Confirm the selected fence system, gates, terminals, hardware, final layout, and product instructions before buying materials or building.
